How Can You Fix - Nothing but problems since ''upgrading''? to windows 8.1!?

Nothing but problems since ''upgrading''? to windows 8.1!

I purchased a new HP 23 inch desktop AIO with touch screen last December with the following, Windows 8, Intel Core i3- 3240 CPU @ 3.4 GHz, 6 Gigs RAM, 64 bit operating system, x64-based processor and a 1TB hard drive.
In late February I took advantage
of the free "upgrade" to windows 8.1 and it's been a nightmare ever since! It started with the reboot after installing 8.1 when I had no sound, no computer sounds, nothing! After searching the net I discovered I may need to update drivers, did that and sound
returned (temporarily).
Then I went to play a video and the video froze as the sound continued.
I have narrowed that problem down to a USB hub I have, with it plugged into a USB port if you try to watch a video the vid will freeze and sound will be lost until
reboot then it comes back.
Ok, so I can't use my USB hub anymore.
fine.
Did I mention that the computer was seemingly lightning fast before the "upgrade" to 8.1! Not so fast now! Now on to my current issue.
I have made as of today 16 attempts to download and
install the "8.1 Update" in all but 2 of those attempts it failed to even download the updates.
(I have high speed cable).
Did I mention there are no error codes.
It just says it failed to install update! Now when I shut this computer down later tonight it
will try to install the update anyway and will sit  for an hour before it shuts down and then when I start it back up I will spend another hour removing files and constantly rebooting to get it to run at 2/3 the speed it ran with windows 8.
I have scoured
this website and others and tried every fix that I have come across that I thought pertained to my issue.
Mind you I am no computer expert by any stretch of the imagination.
( I figure I have good solid 12 hours of my time into attempting to resolve this issue
at this point) I have seen on this website many answers by the experts to this problem only to see the original complainant return and say "thanks, but that didn't work".
I guess my question is, is there an actual fix for this issue, is Microsoft working on
it, or do I have to go and pay a computer expert to solve this problem? If it is in fact solvable.
If I have to do that, who do I call at Microsoft to be reimbursed for the costs? Somebody give me a #! Thanks in advance for all your help!

Details
Introduction
Windows uses drivers for all devices attached and built-in your system many of them require drivers to work the way they should, now after you have updated to Windows 8.1 many of them are outdated, however they will still function fine.
However, there
are always drivers that are causing issues, and they need updating!

What to update first?
Many drivers are important, but a not fully working webcam can wait however  internet which is not working (lan or wifi) is a much bigger issue which needs too be solved fast, my advice to people asking help to update to Windows 8.1 is to first download
these on a USB and then update, but if your reading this, you might be too late already.
Many laptops and desktops have built-in Wifi and Lan networking cards and their brands website might have the new drivers for these.
See the list below for more drivers.
The recommended drivers to update first are:
·        Chipset Drivers
·        Networking Drivers
·        Storage Drivers (if apply)
·        Video Card and Audio Card drivers

Where do I find these drivers?
If you have an Intel processor then you can use this tool to automatically detect all drivers on your system that needs updating:

Yes, that could be the case, these programs listed above are only for updating your chipset, network cards (not all of them!) and video cards.
All other drivers you need to search for on your brands website.
